Wukro, day 5, burning of bones
Alarm clocks rang to head off to training and it was raining. The football 5 pitch in which they play is still flooded, so we had to go back to training at the football 11 pitch. The training structure is the same for all three groups. Begin with heating exercises through games, others to work individual technique, technical-tactical exercises and end finish with a match.

At the end of the session the coach asked us for exercises to work strength and resistance, so in the following training session we will include some tasks oriented to work physical training conditions.

Abba Gebre, one of the priests that lives at the mission and that also holds a position in the Wukro Sports Commission, invited us to the sports ceremony.

Gathered at this event were the leading sportsmen/women from the area and during the ceremony they were given scholarships and sportswear. Much to our surprise, we were given Ethiopia’s National team jerseys and they dedicated some kind words.

In the evening we joined in on an activity that occurs every Saturday. We went to a site that has been yielded to the mission and that is next to the slaughter house. There, for a while now, the bones of the animals that are sacrificed are burned and later ground into dust with a stone. That bone dust is later used as compost. What children like most is that they get to ride, all crowded together, in the back of pick-ups.
